Geelong YMCA Gymnastics Programs The YMCA Gymnastics Program has variety to suit the needs of all participants. Gymnastics is very influential in a child’s development as it incorporates all forms of movement providing a multitude of challenges regardless of ability level. Skills taught in a gymnastic program will prepare the child for successful participation in a range of sports and outdoor pursuits. It is important to note that no child should enter a gymnastics room without a coach present and children should always be supervised when on gymnastics and playground equipment. EdGym The YMCA EdGym Program is designed for children aged 1-5 years. The classes aim to develop basic coordination, balance, spatial and body awareness in a fun environment that promotes socialisation. The program uses many pieces of gymnastics apparatus including bars, beams, rings, trampolines, ropes, balls, parachutes and other hand apparatus. EdGym is a parent assisted program. The children love having a parent or carer to help or encourage them. Your reinforcement of what they are being taught will also facilitate their early learning. Term 3, 2008 Classes

The program is taught in a non-competitive format so each participant has the opportunity to learn and progress at their own pace. The skills learnt during Gymsafe classes provide a sound foundation in gymnastics which allow the child to progress onto higher gymnastics levels or to use the skills they have acquired in other sports. All Gymsafe and Intro Gym gymnasts are invited to attend the Club Championships in December. This is a fun event where gymnasts show family and friends what they have learned via a recreational competition format. All participating gymnasts receive a medal and certificate.
