steady feetSteady Feet

Get active with all the right steady feet for a 1 hour exercise program located at the Meredith Community Centre and Dereel Community Hall.

Steady Feet is a specifically designed exercise program for ages 60+ to take part in a safe, fun and social way.

Steady feet has been developed for men and women who have health risk factors or pre-existing injuries. The program has been designed by health professionals and is led by specifically trained instructors who can alter the program for participants as required. The program delivers low to moderate intensity workouts incorporating gentle aerobic movements, weight bearing, and resistance exercising stretching.

Steady feet classes are held at

  • Meredith Community Centre: Wednesdays at 10:00am
  • Dereel Community Hall: Wednesdays at 11:45am

A doctor’s certificate is to be provided and details given to a Y instructor for injury description and limitations.

The program focuses on delivering safe, low to moderate intensity work-outs incorporating gentle aerobic movements, weight-bearing or resistance exercise and stretching - all of which help improve strength, balance, and self-confidence. It’s also a great way to meet new people, as Rose attests.

“I started coming to Steady Feet about 2.5 years ago. I had suffered a stroke and the doctor recommended that I do some exercise to help me with my muscles that were affected by the stroke. I used to use a stick for walking and thanks to Steady Feet I don’t use the stick at all anymore. My bad leg has really improved and my balance is so much better. The instructor always helps me if I need to change the exercise and she also explains why we are doing each exercise. This helps me to understand the benefits of coming along to the class. We all swap recipes and also books, and we enjoy a coffee after the class every week, so it makes it very social.”

Rose, 71 years old
