Role: Board Member                       

Location: Geelong                                       

Payment: Reimbursement of expenses

Term: 3 years with further two terms of 3 years   

Meeting Frequency: Monthly (Online/Face to face at night)

Community Sector: Youth, Sport and Recreation, Children’s Services

Area of Expertise: Commercial or Legal skills, Chairman Skills  overseeing Early Education and Care Entity.                                                                                                                                                        

Y Geelong are seeking expressions of interest from our community with suitable area of expertise experience or skills that are committed to working with the Y Geelong to deliver our Strategic Direction - Vision 2030.

Candidates needs to be aged 18+

About the Y
The Y Geelong is a for purpose, not for profit community organisation celebrating 70 years servicing the community across recreation, camping, youth, and children’s services.

About our Board

The Y Geelong Board is representative governors that possess skills and expertise that support the Association to provide governance and strategic leadership to the organisation and invites and encourages a diverse and inclusive perspective from each board member. The board is responsible for:

  • Appointing and providing guidance and support to the CEO;
  • The development and execution of the Strategic Plan;
  • Providing alignment and accountability to the organisation in achieving the strategic objectives and priorities;
  • Being brand ambassadors for the Y, promoting the work and impact the organisation has for young people.

About the role

As Board Member, you will:

  • Apply your expertise and knowledge to contribute to the Board of Y Geelong governance.
  • Attend and actively participate in monthly Board Meetings (Last Monday of every month)
  • Attend a reasonable number of occasional staff events and functions
  • Work cooperatively and with a sense of humor while being committed to the Y Geelong Vision and Mission
  • Value and promote diversity and inclusion for all
  • The Board member roles are volunteer position with approximately 2.5 – 3 hours per month
  • Board Members will become members of the Association and serve on two Boards; Young Men’s Christian Association of Geelong and Geelong and District YMCA Youth Services

 The Y Geelong Board and Management are committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding Children and Young People framework. All applicants must undergo satisfactory screening prior to commencement, including but not limited to:

  • A national criminal history check;
  • An international criminal history check where applicants have worked overseas;
  • Holding or obtaining a valid Working with Children Card;
  • Three reference checks.

The successfully appointed applicant will be required to adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People policies and practices which include; safeguarding children and young people induction, annual SCYP training programs and committing to upholding the safety and wellbeing of children and young people throughout terms of employment.
