GymStar Competitive Program for Gymnasts
Invitation Only
GymStar is a foundational competitive gymnastics program, designed for gymnasts of all ages and genders with intermediate gymnastics experience looking to progress their skills.
At the Y, our GymStar Program is a step up from our GymSafe levels, providing the opportunity for our athletes to participate in in-house and external competitions, without the high-hours training commitment of our WAG and MAG competitive programs.
GymStar combines elements of Women’s Artistic Gymnastics and Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, and is comprised of six apparatus: Vault, Uneven Bars, Beam, Floor, Parallel Bars and Rings. Gymnasts will train on all six apparatus, developing skills and composing routines on each apparatus throughout the year.
WHAT LEVELS DO WE OFFER + TRAINING INFORMATION:
Currently, we offer GymStar classes ranging from levels 3-10, with training hours depending on level.
GymStar 3 is our introductory level to GymStar. At this level, routines and skills focussed on correct shaping, and building strong foundations of technique, to set athletes up for success in our higher levels. Aiming to foster fun and engagement in our classes, athletes at this level train for 2.5 hours once per week at our North Geelong venue.
GymStar 4/5 classes are a blend of our GymStar 4 and 5 levels, training together and working on a combined program with incremental progressions designed to keep athletes challenged and encourage their progression. At this level, athletes will train for 3 hours up to 3 times per week, with the option to select their preferred training days.
GymStar 6/7 classes are a blend of our GymStar 6 and 7 levels, training together and working on a combined program with incremental progressions designed to keep athletes challenged and encourage their progression. At this level, athletes are beginning to introduce higher-level skills, developing routines that replicate those of our more senior levels. At this level, the minimum athletes can train for is 3 hours once per week, however, training schedules are more flexible! There is an option for athletes at this level to pick up to 3 sessions per week, or to train for a slightly longer, 3.5-hour session on Mondays.
Advanced GymStar is a new class format introduced for 2026, offered selectively to athletes who are working at our higher GymStar levels, typically levels 7+. Training up to 3 nights per week, at our Newtown venue, this class works closely alongside our senior coaching team to maximise athletes’ opportunities to learn and develop new skills. This class opens more opportunity for development of strength and conditioning, a key prerequisite for higher level skills, as well as tumble development.
COMPETITION INFORMATION:
In GymStar, attending external competitions is not mandatory, but is highly encouraged. At the beginning of each year, in collaboration with the coaching team, a competition calendar is developed and is communicated to families. We also host in-house GymStar competitions twice a year, which we strongly recommend attending, as they are a fantastic opportunity to showcase routines and new skills to family and friends in a fun and comfortable environment!

- All routines that meet skill and composition requirements will be judged out of 15.00
